Originally constructed in 1926 as a garage, the building is located in the Nieuwe Spaarnwouderstraat, a historic mixed-use area of Haarlem once characterised by small-scale industry, workshops and storage facilities. The transformation adds two new storeys to the existing structure, creating two spacious contemporary homes. The first floor accommodates an open living and dining kitchen, while the bedrooms are located on the upper floor. The ground floor retains private parking and storage, reflecting the building’s original function. Responding to the industrial heritage of the neighbourhood, the protected façade is carefully restored, while the new additions reinterpret the area’s industrial character through their architectural language, materiality and carefully set-back roofline.
