In this renovation, the challenge was to create a cozy home with more volume while responding sensitively to the surrounding forest and sloping landscape.
The villa sits near dense woodland and is shaped as a dark volume, nestling into its surroundings like a boshuis (forest house). The shifting terrain is made visible and legible in both the floor plan and the exterior expression.
The house is centered on the sun’s path, with light moving through layered levels to create dynamic, playful spaces connected to the landscape.

Layers & Levels

This area is characterized by dense woodland and a varied landscape. The villa responds to this dynamic terrain in both its interior and exterior.
Differences in floor levels and the layered façade cladding make the building’s vertical transitions legible from the outside. By choosing dark timber, the villa blends into its surroundings and presents itself with a discreet expression, despite its substantial volume, which is divided into several parts across multiple levels.

Shifting light

The living spaces of the house are organized according to the path of the sun and accentuate the shifting landscape. In this way, the dining room has become the heart of the home. Here, a large new window brings generous daylight inside. As the light filters through the various levels, it moves and dances through the spaces, creating dynamic sightlines and playful experiences — all while making optimal use of the surrounding views.
